Obit of the Day: “Father of Doritos”
Arch West got the idea for a tortilla snack chip long before most Americans knew how to pronounce “tortilla.” West passed a snack stand near San Diego in 1961 that sold fried tortilla chips and decided that it would be the next snack sensation. It took a a few years of persuading company executives, but in 1964 Frito-Lay introduced Doritos. In 2005 sales of Doritos were over $500 million per year.
Mr. West was 97. When he’s buried his family will sprinkle Doritos over his coffin. True story.

The All-Father of Doritos died today at the wizardly age of 97. He left us a legacy of crunching.
